How do you get closer to your children? There is a big gap between the generation of parents and the generation of children. Parents need to understand that the things children do now are part of growing up and exploring their world. The only way to keep them coming back home is to show belongingness and love. Parents need to make their children feel loved and truly cared for. Nagging won’t help. Parents are having a hard time keeping their children away from drugs, bad influence from the wrong group, smoking and drinking. They say bad habits are hard to break. No, I don't believe in that. Discipline and close watch never be lax is the right attitude for that. Loving does not mean giving everything what the children wants. Loving means guiding them and explaining to them the consequences of every action. Train them to listen to you and respect your opinion.

Sense of belongingness is very important too. It will make your children excited and happy to come home, to belong to home. Remember I talked about home not the house. A poor man’s travails in time would note the increasing gap between the rich and the poor hitting an all time high record in any nation’s economy. Such disparity was obviously promoted by globalization, technical advances which had driven out the less skilled workers out of the competition, education and several opportunities only a rich man’s pocket can afford.

We all have the same basic needs. Rich and poor alike need food, clothing and shelter. Meeting these needs differs only with the quality and quantity in which the rich man obviously can do better and even more for that matter. However there is one common thing a rich man and a poor man shares – the search for meaning! What do you live for?

Have you ever heard stories of world’s wealthiest people reaching out to the poorest giving out their riches for no apparent reason at all? Have you ever wondered what kind of satisfaction these people get out of giving what they had strive hard in life to get? It is because emptiness is like a disease and the only cure is sharing with empathy in full compassion with others.

Man thirsts for something undefined at first. A drug resistant flesh eating bacteria is spreading. This is called MRSA or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Research suggests that the disease was spreading through the homosexual community. A team of investigators were tracking the rise through the number of infections from drug-resistant staph germs. Emergency department visits due to MRSA rose from 1.2 million in 1993 to 3.4 million in 2005. This is said to be the number one cause of abscesses in healthy emergency room patients. MRSA is typically through skin to skin contact. There is no suggestion however that it was a sexually transmitted disease. This is really a matter of simple hygiene. If you notice any infection you should see a doctor immediately. Please do not take anything for granted.

Let me tell you a sad story. In October 2006, my officemate Teddy Chua discovered a lump in the right side of my neck. That lump happens to be a lymphangioma. It was a kind of lymph node but not cancerous. His transfer saved my life but it was a great sacrifice for him because he lived far the new branch assignment. What are the lessons we learn from the story? Sometimes there are sacrifices we bear that saves lives. We just don’t know it but yes it was a great sacrifice on his part too. Everything happens for a reason. I did not experienced any symptoms with the lymph nodes. It was nothing for me that I took for granted when I found out through him. I was not aware it was growing. He kept on pushing me to go to the doctor because he was fully aware of the negative consequence of the growing lymph node. I took it for granted but sense that it is some kind of urgency that the roots of the growing lymph node will be extracted. The doctors were extra careful with my feelings and they scheduled the operation immediately. I was operated March 28, 2007. I retired June 2007 because of my herniated discs and of the pain that I sometimes feel at my neck.

My second story was also an officemate who died about four or five months ago, maybe October or November 2007. The disease was the same. Earl was not aware of the growing lymph node at his chest. Maybe he took it for granted like mine. He only went to the doctor when he found it impossible to breathe even if he walks at little distances. Earl had an operation immediately and a week after that went into chemo therapy. That was the story I got. But he went home to his father and died there. It was sad losing him.

Never take anything for granted. When you see any infection even if it is just a small bulge, please see your doctor immediately.

Bank accidentally gives man $2million and then sued man for larceny charges. Is this fair?

It is bank practice to verify signature before withdrawal especially when it comes to millions already. Here in the Philippines it is our practice to hold the money and the client as much as possible. So we try to offer them better rates first and of course offer other products. When we verify signatures, we always have to check everything and maybe get some IDs to update if signature differs a lot.

I was surprised to read that they offered the man to make the withdrawal and insist he got that much deposit. Confidentiality and as a matter of precautionary measure, if the client does not remember nor understand what an officer of the bank is talking about then maybe one should think twice before offering the withdrawal. For sure the one approving will likely pay or is it the insurance?

But if the story holds true that it was offered then I am very much surprise. Really we don't offer that much for withdrawal, we offer good rates to keep it.

It works when we overcome all this and we gain the spirituality to see things the way we should all see it, in the eyes of compassion and care for humanity. The man with the mission completed his mission here on earth with great compassion. This is the only time I am telling you to be a great copycat of the Man with the mission. Do your day-to-day task with great love and compassion and you will see how these special ingredients can make you stronger to fulfill commitments.

I can't comprehend why some people have more than enough riches in this world and some have only their tears to accompany them in their hunger. I can't even say they didn't struggled hard or even worked hard to live that's why they didn't become rich. They did their time well and so am I. Today I have been sitting in my bedroom looking at the houses outside mine, if you can call it a house. They were more of a makeshift shacks. Life could be eluding at times. There are people who are quite favored by God. They lived a very comfortable life, more than comfortable I think. Sometimes I ask why there is such discrepancy in our values. I know that the ideal answer is effort, work and faith. This morning I just wake up and ask why after all the efforts I just can't live quite comfortably yet. Of course we have this feeling at times especially when everybody in the family is getting sick and me taking care of them even at dawn and myself getting sick with asthma also. Now thinking of the budget and all that goes to the medical bills, getting replenishment is quite difficult when I am sick also. Maybe I am just tired but I just can't help writing what I think. Life essence, people's sacrifices and God's glory is a matter of deep spirituality or else misunderstanding can lead one to rebellion against his love. This is why a lot of people are finding some sort of outlet for their depression like witchcraft and listening to fraud prophets. What's the purpose of living then?

We have a lot to understand with the context of diversity. Diversity not only with regards to race but also with regards to beliefs and value formation. It is a fact that even people of the same race differs in their religion, beliefs and upbringing. Still differences between people is not accountable to nor limited to this context. We are to note that attitudes and temperament which sometimes confuses us where to place this category in the nature of psychology and diversity plays a big part in our day-to-day social interaction. People with diabetes for example have a lot to explain but couldn't explain the changes in their moods. Illnesses affects the disposition on a lot of people and this we have to consider in building relationships. We don't limit our understanding to what we see. We expand our horizons over to what illnesses and situations affect the behavior.

Sometimes when people are so bombarded with problems and heartaches it makes them feel numb and life become undirected and without meaning. It would be quite a pain to see that we are still alive and have to get up each day to live on with the pain. Somehow life is not fair but God is there to see and feel our heartache. Maybe we ought to cry a barrel of tears before God will hear our emergency calls again. Our body may become weary and so our souls drop dead with frustrations too. Why can't God just end misery and let us be happy, just simply happy? I know that in times like this we ought to pray harder and just do what is needed to fulfill our responsibilities for the day. Each day will bring a new hope and we are not to waste it. We give value to life, we give value to ourselves. Do not despair because help is coming when we least expect it. Just live a just man's life.

It is vanity to follow the desires of the flesh and to desire that which is not important to spirituality. Selfless love is giving without asking for nothing in return. In the process you could get hurt, but take your stand and act selflessly. Because it is vanity to love what is passing away with all speed and forget what everlasting joy is.

Remember only by the light of faith and by meditation on the word of God can one always and everywhere recognize God. Seek his will in every event and make correct judgment about the true meaning and value of temporal things. This can be difficult for someone who lacks the faith but I say be selfless God will always send Divine Providence.

Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find. For God exist and is with us, is in us. We only have to approach his throne humbly and kneel or even cry like a baby. You will see changes. Adopt the change and try to do good.
