cocaine vaccine

Houston Baylor College researchers are working on cocaine vaccine to treat people hooked on drugs. The vaccine was designed to stimulate the immune system to attack the real drug when taken. The immune system will then recognize the drug when ingested and work on a combination of antibodies that binds to the cocaine. This clever idea prevents the drug from reaching the brain and rid the users of interest over the drug because they won't get high anymore. Addiction vaccines are very promising but they are unlikely to work with everyone since treatments has to be customized too according to body reactions. But it seems that the vaccine just circumvents the reward pathways in the brain to hijack cocaine. This time if human test will succeed we got ourselves the cure of the century: a drug for a drug.
